Calculate your grade when your class uses points.

Instead of weighting categories by percentage, your professor assigns point values to every assignment and exam. Your grade is simply total points earned divided by total points possible. For example, if you've earned 450 out of 500 points, your current grade is 90%.

Check your syllabus or gradebook. If assignments are listed as "worth 50 points" or "worth 100 points" rather than "worth 10% of your grade," your class uses a points-based system. Most learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard) show this clearly.

Enter the total number of points your final exam is worth — not a percentage. If your final is worth 200 points, enter 200. The calculator adds this to the total points possible and computes what percentage you need on the final to hit your target grade.

Include extra credit points in your "Points Earned" total but not in "Points Possible." This gives you an accurate current grade that accounts for the extra credit you've already received.
