FAQ

Chemistry final questions.

How much is a chemistry final usually worth?

Most general chemistry finals are worth 20–30% of your total grade. Organic chemistry finals often land at 25–35%. Check your syllabus — some professors make the final cumulative and weight it more heavily than midterms.

My chemistry class uses ACS exams. Does that affect the calculation?

The ACS standardized exam is scored differently — you get a raw score and a percentile. If your professor curves to the ACS percentile, enter the curved percentage as your final exam score. If they use the raw percentage of correct answers, enter that instead. The weight calculation works the same either way.

What if my chemistry final replaces a midterm?

If your professor replaces a low midterm with your final score (if it helps), you'll want the Drop Lowest calculator instead. That mode lets you enter all your exam scores and specify how many to drop.

Is an 82% typical for a chemistry class?

The national average for general chemistry courses is around 70–75%, so an 82% puts you above average. Organic chemistry averages are often lower, around 65–70%. Your individual grade depends on your institution, professor, and course format.
