How do I calculate what I need on my final?
Use the Standard mode: enter your current class grade (as a percentage), the grade you want to end up with, and the weight of the final exam. The calculator uses the formula: Required = (Target − Current × (1 − Weight)) ÷ Weight to tell you exactly what score you need.
What if my class uses points instead of percentages?
Switch to Points-Based mode. Enter the points you've earned so far, total points possible, and how many points the final is worth. The calculator converts everything to percentages internally and tells you what score you need.
How do I calculate my grade after I've already taken the final?
Use the After Final mode. Enter your grade before the final, the score you received on the final, and the final's weight. The calculator computes your new overall grade using: New Grade = Current × (1 − Weight) + Final Score × Weight.
What if my final just counts as another test in a weighted category?
Use the Weighted Category mode. This handles classes where "Tests" is one weighted category (e.g., 40% of your grade) and the final is just one more test within it. Enter your current grade, test average, number of tests taken, and how many tests the final counts as.
My professor drops the lowest test score. How does that affect my calculation?
Use the Drop Lowest mode. Enter all your individual test scores (comma-separated), and specify how many lowest scores get dropped. The calculator removes the lowest scores before computing what you need on the final.
My final exam has multiple parts with different weights. What do I do?
Use the Multi-Part Final mode. Set the number of parts (2–4), assign a weight to each, and mark any parts you've already completed with their scores. The calculator figures out what you need on the remaining parts.
What does "Impossible" mean in the results?
"Impossible" means the required final exam score exceeds 100%. You'd need extra credit to reach your target grade. Consider adjusting your target to a more realistic grade, or talk to your professor about extra credit opportunities.
Is this calculator accurate?
